Job Purpose

The Vice President of Human Resources is responsible for developing and driving organizational effectiveness and supporting the COO on all major initiatives. Providing consultation to management on strategic staffing plans, like compensation, benefits, training and development, budget, labor relations, etc, they are responsible for the smooth and profitable operation of the Greenlane Human Resources department.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Overall responsibility for the human resources functions as it relates to all U.S. and international employees including employee relations, recruiting, compensation, benefits administration, development, implementation and administration of human resources team.
  • Work with COO and senior leadership team in developing and implementing aspects of company culture and related change management.
  • Develop and implement HR strategies and initiatives aligned with the overall business strategy.
  • Lead the development and implementation of an employee performance management program.
  • Develop and administer the Human Resources budget.
  • Oversee international benefits administration to include claims resolutions, billing, change reporting, approving invoices for payment; analyze benefits options and cost alternatives for providing employee benefits and implements benefit program design and modifications.
  • Oversee all aspects of the international payroll function and team.
  • Implement and annually update compensation program; establish job specifications and salary ranges for positions; rewrite job descriptions as necessary; conduct annual salary surveys and develop a salary budget for merit increases; analyze compensation; monitor the performance evaluation program and revise as necessary.
  • Develop, recommend and implement personnel policies and procedures; prepare and maintain employee handbook and stand-alone policies.
  • Oversee affirmative action program; file EE0-1 annually; maintain other records, reports, and logs to conform to EEO regulations, as well as other country-specific required reporting.
  • Ensure legal compliance by monitoring and implementing applicable human resource federal and state requirements; conduct investigations; maintain records, and work with inside and outside counsel on complex human resource matters.
  • Maintain management guidelines by developing, preparing, updating and recommending human resources programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Oversee the recruitment, interviewing, selection and placement of all employees hired by the ouse recruiter(s); supervise onboarding, career-pathing program; administer and conduct employee relations counseling, promotion, transfer and separation procedures of current employees; conduct exit interviews.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; attending conferences and participating in professional societies.
  • Directly manage human resources and office services staff, including responsibility for hiring, firing, performance management, disciplining, planning, monitoring training, and appraising job results within those departments.
  • Develop and administer various human resources plans and procedures for all personnel.
  • Oversee the administration and preparation of presentations including but not limited to: harassment prevention, diversity, and office safety.
  • Assist with retirement plans (including the frozen defined benefit plan and the current 401(k) plan) and evaluate deferred compensation and other qualified and non-qualified benefit options.
  • Other duties as assigned by manager or designee.

Qualifications & Skills Required

  • Experience as a leader in a senior human resources role with at least 15 years of progressive experience. International experience required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in HR, business, social sciences or related field; advanced degree is preferable.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; confident public speaker; comfortable presenting and interacting with all levels within an organization.
  • SPHR, SHRM-CP certification.
  • Knowledge of federal and California labor laws, regulations, and best practices. Canadian employment experience required; European employment knowledge a plus.
  • Skilled user of MS Office products, especially PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Solid working knowledge of administrating and implementing HRIS systems.
  • Highest ethical standards.
  • Knowledge of principles and procedures of health and welfare benefits, job evaluation and analysis.
  • Excellent active listening, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Competence to build and effectively manage professional relationships at all levels of the company.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and direct a complex, comprehensive human resources program.
  • Ability to analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions, and implement recommendations.
  • Ability to research, analyze and evaluate new service delivery methods, procedures and techniques.
  • Ability to be proactive, in taking actions to prevent problems from starting or growing.
